Clouds never existed in the past, if they did, they would have had representation in ancient and primitive art, same goes for certain other weather phenomena. Look into etymology of clouds - "mass of rock or earth". You'd think something so significant in daily life would play a role in past artistic expression in one way or another but all we get is "sun" and "moon" symbolism. Look up first depictions of clouds in art and literature. I am not strictly talking "caveman" - consider the records of civilization (which, even mainstream historians/archaeologists can at least agree on minimal 10k years) and first depictions (a Greek play I think) are less than 2000 years and in visual art is just over 1000 years ago. Water exists without rain, and most of all the water that ever existed is still here. Water doesn't originate from clouds, it comes from the earth. Clouds are a relatively new phenomena.
